Accessible Venues

While there is no one national source, there is some state, territory and capital city based information available about access including arts and cultural venues. Some local governments and arts and cultural venues also provide specific access information and a quick google search will usually reveal what is available.

Here are some of the better sources of information we are aware of.

Victoria :: EASE Ticketing Service

Victoria is the only State that has a ‘one stop shop’ information and ticketing services for accessible arts, cultural and entertainment events.

The Arts Access EASE Ticket Service offers practical information, personal service and affordable ticket prices to ensure more people can attend arts and entertainment events.

Members may include wheelchair and walking aid users, people with low vision or blindness, impaired hearing or deafness, permanent injury, arthritis, psychiatric disability, chronic or life threatening illness, or intellectual disability. People disadvantaged by social conditions may also be entitled to use the service.

Individual Membership
($30 a year) is available to all people with a disability or chronic illness.

Group Membership ($50 a year) is available to people living in supported accommodation and community groups (servicing less than 20 people) in the area of disability, disadvantage and health.

Organisation Membership
($80 a year) is available to organisations working in the area of disability, disadvantage and health.

Membership benefits include:

- Reduced price and free tickets

- Specialised seating service

- Ticket update, –a quarterly publication listing upcoming events and access information (available in multiple print formats including large print, Braille, audiotape and email)

- Flexible payment and booking options including mail order, phone, TTY and email.

- Access information available by phone at the time of booking or through Access Information Sheets by mail on request

- Membership card for use as identification for discounts and access requirements

- Sign Interpreted events for people who are Deaf

- Audio Described events for people who are blind or vision impaired

- Arts Access qaurterly newsletter providing information on the organisation's activities and articles of interest in arts and disability news.

- EASE-news monthly e-bulletin featuring special offers, EASE news, accessible events etc

In addition Arts Access Victoria advocates for ongoing improvements in the arts industry and welcome feedback regarding specific concerns.

South Australia :: Disabillity Information and Resource Centre's Access Database
Arts Access SA is working with the Disability Information and Resource Centre to build a brand new series of web-pages featuring regularly updated information about accessible venues which will include virtual building tours. The Disability Information Resource Centre currently offers an Access Database online, which users can search to find out how accessible venues are.
