1. National Network News

Welcome to New Members

AAA welcomes new member CASA (Central Australia Supported Accommodation). Based in Alice Springs, CASA have a history of running theatre projects in conjunction with their accommodation service. They have recently employed an Arts and Disability Coordinator, Jack Nicholls to bring together people and projects in Alice and surrounds. David Doyle, Chair of Arts Access Australia and Program Manager of AAA WA will be holding a cultural mapping and disability awareness day with Jack in Alice on the 15th August.

Touring Consultation for the Arts and Disability Sector

Want a say about touring highs and lows? Ready to share your achievements and disasters? AAA, the Australia Council and DoCITA are meeting in September to discuss touring issues as they affect the arts and disability sector. We want your input. New Partnership Agreement between AAA and the Australia Council

AAA has renewed its partnership with the Australia Council for another year. AAA will continue to work towards increased access to and participation in the arts for people with disabilities and experiencing disadvantage. AAA will also continue to advise the Australia Council on the development and implementation of its Disability Action Plan See: http://www.ozco.gov.au/resources/disability.

2. Arts Events Coming Up

Awakenings Festival Collaborates with NIDA

Funding from Festivals Australia is being used by the Awakenings Festival to bring teachers from NIDA to the 10-day Awakenings Festival in Horsham, Victoria 11th - 20th October. NIDA will provide training for Awakenings performers, a master class and training for artistic directors and group coordinators, culminating in a major performance at the festival. Australian Theatre of the Deaf presents - 'Stage Rage!'

ATOD is celebrating the end of their year on August 24th with 'Stage Rage'. The night includes a piece from ATOD's amateur theatre group, highlights from the acclaimed cabaret 'Dislabelled' (which has recently performed at the Adelaide Comedy Festival), and a brand new piece by ATOD actor/director Kate Nelson. Queer Accessible Theatre Sports

The Gay Games 2002 (Sydney) and Accessible Arts are presenting theatre sports workshops and performances as part of the Gay Games Cultural Program. November 4-8th. Contact Accessible Arts for more details: info@aarts.net.au.

Groundswell Regional Arts Conference

World Congress on Inclusion

Arts Access (Melbourne) is curating a disability arts festival in conjunction with Inclusion International, 22 - 26th September, 2002. A visual arts program, performing arts program and film program will be offered. More the Congress: http://www.icms.com.au/inclusion/.

Matisse Picasso i-Map Project

The Tate gallery has launched a comprehensive online resource for visually impaired people. I-map offers an interactive examination on the key concepts of modern art by focusing on selected works by Matisse and Picasso. It's FUN, is an innovative use of technology and is a great educational tool as well. http://www.tate.org.uk/imap.

Ouch! Is the BBC's new website
