AAA Newsletter

Issue 6- January 2002

Published: Bi Monthly

1. Welcome Back

Welcome to Arts Access Australia's first eNewsletter for 2002. The year promises to be a busy one for AAA, with regional development projects, network development and advocacy projects keeping us busy. As this is a quiet time of year this newsletter is happily short, so I have space for a one off short editorial introduction below……..enjoy.
Claire Havey, National Network Director

In recent years arts practice and audience development by and for people with disabilities / disadvantage has steadily developed in Australia, with an increase in both the level and quality of activity. Australia is now home to a number of arts organisations which actively target disability communities and disadvantaged members of our society. Most of these organisations are motivated by high artistic aspirations and by a deep commitment to social justice. It is hard work, requiring an understanding of arts cultures, disability cultures and the political process. The work is generally underpaid, but it is extremely rewarding. It is usually uphill work in a society that tends to undervalue and under resource people with disabilities and people living in conditions of economic, social and cultural disadvantage.

Arts Access Australia is glad to be starting 2002 with a broader membership base and a strong state based communications network that has been built up over the last 10 years. Please use this network to share your ideas, work, and knowledge with other people working in your sector.

The newsletter will continue to be sent bi monthly in 2002. Remember to let us know if you have any events or information to include in future editions of the newsletter. We'd love to hear from you. Or if you know someone who would like to subscribe to this newsletter contact: coord@dadaanat.net.au.
