Dion Beasley on ABC's Art Nation


Cheeky Dogs cartoon

Dion Beasley is a young Indigenous artist whose distinctive Cheeky Dog cartoons have won wide acclaim. Dion grew up 300 km away from Tennant Creek in the small township of Owairtilla, also known as Canteen Creek. Watch Art Nation profile of Dion's work on ABC Television.

 

Born profoundly deaf and with muscular dystrophy, Dion works alongside his friend and mentor Joie Boulter. Together they formed a cult NT brand; the Cheeky Dog label of clothing and bag merchandise. Joie and Dion communicate via Auslan, the Australian sign-language system.
