Welcome

Welcome to Arts Access Australia.

Arts Access Australia is the national peak body of State and Territory arts and disability organizations working to increase access and participation in the arts for the one in five Australians with a disability.

Our work reflects the World Health Organisation International Classification on Health and Functioning by promoting wellbeing and the social models of disability and health. Arts Access Australia is supported by the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.

Our current areas of work include:

Audience Development - A national research project to identify gaps and develop strategies to improve access for people with disabilities to the performing arts and museums and galleries.

International - The Hamutuk (Connections) project is supporting arts and disability work in East Timor and cultural exchange with Australia.

Making The Journey publication - A 96-page, full-colour publication, showcasing best practice in arts and disability, launched in December 2005.

Regional Development - Supporting the development of arts and disability networks in the Northern Territory and Tasmania

Policy and Advice - Arts Access Australia provides advice and develops policy for systemic change with practical outcomes for people with disabilities.
